Car Seat made out of Carbon Fiber November 20th, 2008

Car seats for your kids are never an exciting thing to purchase.  They rarely feature designs different from every other car seat developed in the past twenty years.  Yes, they might have more safety features, but usually you’re going to get stuck with some pastel car seat probably featuring Winnie the Pooh or some Disney princess.  Which seems a bit unfair once you think about it.  After all, your kid doesn’t really care what their car seat looks like till their later years of sitting in one.  So why not buy a car seat that will look attractive in your car.  Well one designer has decided to create a car seat inspired by racing gear.

The designer, Rory Craig will be pitching his design idea to Sparco Motor Sports.  They are known for their racing inspired seats and safety harnesses.  The car seat will work for your child through all three of the stages they will go through in a car seat.  Which means you’d never need to buy a new car seat.  The body of the seat is made out of carbon fiber which means it will be very lightweight and strong.  It took the designer $4,000 to create the seat, hopefully the next model he creates won’t be quite so expensive.

Canon Beats the Squeeze By Marking Up Accessories November 20th, 2008

Canon Beats the Squeeze By Marking Up Accessories
Almost every press release we get these days starts with the words “in these troubled times…” Here’s a (completely imaginary) PR pitch from Canon: Dear Mr. Sorrell [sic] In these troubled times, Canon has decided to weather the financial storm with an innovative new pricing model. With the release of our hotly anticipated new EOS 5D Mark II, we intend to adopt what is commonly known as the “razor blade model”. In the North American market, the 5D Mk II will carry an aggressive suggested retail price of $2700. However, the accessories will be marked up to a rather higher price point. For example, the Car Battery Charger CBC-E6 will be listed at $270, fully $190 more than than the regular battery charger (actually included in the box with the camera). MSI Introduces the ‘NetTop’: Low-Cost, All-in-One PC November 19th, 2008

MSI Introduces the ‘NetTop’: Low-Cost, All-in-One PC
MSI, the Taiwanese makers of the popular Wind netbook, is hoping to create a new category for low-powered, inexpensive computers called "nettops."  Dubbed the Wind Neton, MSI’s nettop is an all-in-one desktop, meaning the computer’s guts (i.e., CPU, hard drive and memory) are crammed into its display — similar to Apple’s iMac. The main difference is that the nettops are running the low-powered Atom processors designed for mobile devices, meaning they’re streamlined for web browsing and basic computing tasks. The Neton prices will range from $400 to $800 depending on the screen size you choose (15.6, 18.5 or 22 inches). There will also be touchscreen options, according to Engadget China. Supercomputer race gets faster November 18th, 2008

Supercomputer race gets faster
Supercomputers are great, in fact even the name is great: conjuring images of CPUs in red capes flying to the help of damsels in distress.  However, in the real world they are hundreds of cabinets stuffed full of computer stuff and do in fact look incredibly dull.  The opposite can be said of what they actually do as they push the boundaries of what is capable using solely 0s and 1s to solve complex calculations, help define new theorem, and play Crysis on full graphics. Wireless ButtKicker kit ready to rumble your posterior November 18th, 2008

Wireless ButtKicker kit ready to rumble your posterior
by Darren Murph, posted Nov 17th 2008 at 10:40AM Earlier this year, we were fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on perspective) enough to get our rumps on one of the famed ButtKickers. For those unaware, these devices are meant for installation underneath a seat or sofa in order to provide chair-rumbling effects to help you “feel” the film. Now, the Guitammer Company is making them even easier to install by cutting the wires, bringing low frequency audio transducers just inches from your derriere without any cords necessary.
