Intel has just rolled out a home health care device which enables patients to take charge of themselves by helping to manage chronic conditions while keeping them connected to their doctors. Known as the Intel Health Guide PHS6000, this somewhat resembles a small desktop computer, and it goes about collecting patient data including blood pressure, weight and blood-glucose levels. You will be able to hook up a myriad of medical devices to the PHS6000, including blood-pressure-measuring devices, weight scales, a spirometer, a pulse oximeter and blood-glucose monitors. It mainly targets elderly patients, and allows doctors to provide on-the-spot advice via a video conference call over a secured wired-broadband connection. Vudu just announced that they have more than 1000 HD titles on their on-demand service. Although it’s pretty hard to track, they may be right: there’s less than 1000 Blu-Ray titles on the market as of late (non official stats). Vudu had been working its magic or maybe it’s just faster to compress and deliver online instead of manufacturing the discs… If you’re not familiar with what vudu is, check our vudu review. Note that vudu’s HDX movies are 1080p/24fps, while previous “HD” version might be in 1080i resolution. Vudu is one of the potential candidate for our People’s Choice by the way. Votes are still underway. Tags: game, wireless, speaker, design (Read the full post about ‘Vudu claims to have ‘the largest HD library in existence’’…)

Anybody who plays Rock Band is aware the bass-drum pedal is a plastic piece of crap, destined to one day snap in half and ruin a party. My Rock Band pedal met its ill fate over the weekend, and instead of ordering a new one for $40, I put on my "What Would MacGyver Do?" thinking cap and fashioned a fix that cost a mere $5. It only took a few simple steps, and now my pedal is stronger than it ever was before, which isn’t saying much, but I thought I’d share the process here: You’ll need: 1.) an electric drill (Don’t have one? Borrow one from a neighbor!); 2.) two metal mending brackets (3 1/2-inch by 1 3/8-inch, includes screws and comes in packs of four for $5 at your local hardware store); 3.) super glue. We all know that baby animals are much cuter than their adult counterparts, and Bandai aims to capitalize on this general human weakness with its range of BabyAnimal robots. You will be able to choose from four BabyAnimal variants, including the polar bear, white tiger, lion and panda. These toys sit at around 35cm and is powered by a quartet of AA batteries. There will be four sensors included in each toy, making it able to detect touches at its neck, chest and head area, causing it to correspond with animal sounds. Leave it alone for five minutes and it will go to sleep, while pulling its ear is the only way to wake it up. Each Bandai BabyAnimal robot will cost $80 a pop in Japan. Warning: This is not a joke. If you are one of the lucky few with the Android G1 Googlephone, try typing the word “reboot”. Sorry. I take it you managed to find your way back here after your phone restarted. This incredible “feature” is not any kind of malware you might have picked up, but a real life bug in the actual shipping version of the Android OS. Anything you type on the keyboard, in any application, is simultaneously sent to a command line shell and executed as the root user. A rough translation: Imagine you are running a terminal in Linux, the geeky text window into which you type commands for the computer to execute. In the West, we make a big deal about recycling, but what we really mean by “recycling” is melting down old crap to build yet more new crap. This is not the same everywhere. In some places, to recycle means to reuse, foregoing the energy-wasting reprocessing for a simple re-purposing of an old object. And if you thought I used the prefix “re-” too many times in that last sentence, then you’re just being extravagant. I was recycling it. Above you see an old, keyless computer keyboard, the kind of bland beige box to be found mouldering on any sidewalk. In Africa, though, it becomes a lap-desk for a shoeshiner, the rough surface of the stripped keyboard offering a platform which grips both shoes and polish while protecting the shoeshiner’s clothes.
