On the heels of the launch of its quad-core server chips codenamed Shanghai that use the 45-nanometer process technology, AMD has laid out its roadmap for desktops and notebooks. The company will have a 65-nm chip codenamed Conesus with two cores and 1MB cache for the ultra-portable and mini-notebook, or the netbook, market in 2009. In 2010 the Conesus chip will be succeeded by Geneva which will have twice the cache at 2MB. For mainstream notebooks, the company will have a dual-core 45-nm chip codenamed Caspian with 2MB cache available next year, said AMD during its meeting with financial analysts Thursday. AMD will also move to a 32-nm manufacturing process by 2011 with processors codenamed Llano for desktops. (Read the full post about ‘AMD To Have Netbook Chips in 2009, 32-nm Process in 2011′…)

The Acer Aspire One is a pretty sleek netbook to look at, and Germans have it good with an ultra-black version known as the A110X out now. This is different from the black color Acer Aspire One, since the A110X is totally black - just like how poor Ms. Strawberry Fields was drowned in oil from head to toe in the latest Bond outing, Quantum of Solace. Apart from the color of the night, everything else about the A110X remains the same as a vanilla version. The price to pay for a new paint job doesn’t really make sense though - $509 compared to $399 for the ordinary Acer Aspire One. Ah well, the things men do to stand out from the rest… (Read the full post about ‘Acer Aspire One A110X Out In Germany’…)

Those Zacuto DSLR Cine kits we mentioned last month? They’re here, and they’re expensive. Zacuto makes baseplates for movie cameras onto which can be bolted, strapped and hung all manner of accessories, from shoulder mounts to counter-balances to a rather fetching set of handlebars. The new kits, however, are designed to work with the new breed of movie-shooting DSLRs, specifically the Nikon D90 and the upcoming Canon 5D MkII. There are a few advantages to shooting movies with these cameras: You get access to a huge range of (by movie standards) cheap lenses which can produce a shallow depth of field for a very filmic look. And the bodies themselves, while they’re not exactly budget models, are a lot less expensive than the equivalent dedicated video cameras. Zacuto, though, didn’t get the memo. It’s four new kits range from $660 (DSLR Docu Kit) up to almost $5000 (DSLR Filmmaker Kit), and while the top end Filmmaker setup incudes everything, even a Lunchbox and a Universal Donut (!), the Docu kit is literally just a baseplate and a couple of metal poles. We’re likely coming at this from the wrong angle. Compared to accessories for still cameras, these kits are exhorbitant. Compared to the prices movie makers are used to, though, this is small change. Available now. Product page [Zacuto via Photography Bay] Tags: game, gprs, plasma, home theater (Read the full post about ‘Accessory Kits Convert DSLRs into Movie Cameras’…)

The iBoogie is one of those devices that you may not need, but you will probably want. Simply put, the iBoogie is designed to attach to your MP3 Player, and an LED stick figure gets its groove on to the music. By the way, it also works as a speaker, which would probably be the first reason that you would buy it. Unless you are easily impressed by dancing stick figures like I am. The stick figure is “sound responsive”, so I’m guessing it is in tune with music. I’ve heard that it has over fifty signature dance moves. It can actually work without an mp3 player, but it can only play one song: Canned Heat. The iBoogie is powered by 3AA batteries, and it comes with some audio cable. MobileTechReview has a review of the Nokia E66 and writes, “I’m sure you were as excited as we were when we heard that the Nokia E66 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus lens. Well, don’t get too excited– despite the impressive specs, the images are less than you’d expect, especially from a Nokia phone. We weren’t expecting N95-level photos, after all the N95 has a 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, but we were hoping they’d match the Nokia E90, N73 and N78. Nope. At least not ours. Images have noise, even on some outdoors shots and in general lack sharpness. Outdoor shots are decidedly better than indoor shots, with indoor shots looking grainy and noisy.

Logitec Japan (no relevance to the Swiss based Logitech) today announced the LHD-ED1000U2L, an average 1TB external HDD with USB 2.0 and some Eco friendly features. No this HDD case isn’t made of corn based plastic, but features a nifty Power Saving mode that will stop HDD rotation after 1 minute of inactivity (no access to its stored data). This feature works on both PC and MAC, but only a PC powered computer with the appropriate software allows for tweaking the power-saving feature and increasing the time before stopping HDD disk rotation. It will cost around 220€ in Japan. (Read the full post about ‘Logitec’s Eco Friendly 1TB external HDD’…)

Darn it - our friends across the pond have it better yet again with T-Mobile Germany releasing its BlackBerry 8900 today, offering a much more improved performance over the original blackberry Pearl. This new Curve model will feature the following just in case you forget what it offers :- 480 x 360 resolution display Wi-Fi connectivity GPS navigation 3.2 megapixel camera DivX and XviD support The lack of 3G connectivity might rile some feathers, but you can’t really complain about the unbelievably low 4.95 Euro price tag after agreeing to a two-year contract. Alternatively, those who don’t want to be tied down will have to fork out 359.90 Euros instead.
