Apple iPhone 3G Review - PhoneMag

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

PhoneMag reviews the Apple iPhone 3G and writes, “Since much of the change in functionality has been covered in the SlashGear review, I’ll merely cover what stood out for the newbie - whether good or bad. The camera is an obvious weak spot, I spent a couple of seconds trying to tap for a zoom control before realising it lacks even a basic digital zoom. Since the SMS app is so well laid out, with its threaded conversations, it’s all the more puzzling not to have MMS support. And why no dynamic icon for the weather, which changes according to what’s actually going on outside?

Car Seat made out of Carbon Fiber

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Car seats for your kids are never an exciting thing to purchase.  They rarely feature designs different from every other car seat developed in the past twenty years.  Yes, they might have more safety features, but usually you’re going to get stuck with some pastel car seat probably featuring Winnie the Pooh or some Disney princess.  Which seems a bit unfair once you think about it.  After all, your kid doesn’t really care what their car seat looks like till their later years of sitting in one.  So why not buy a car seat that will look attractive in your car.  Well one designer has decided to create a car seat inspired by racing gear.

The designer, Rory Craig will be pitching his design idea to Sparco Motor Sports.  They are known for their racing inspired seats and safety harnesses.  The car seat will work for your child through all three of the stages they will go through in a car seat.  Which means you’d never need to buy a new car seat.  The body of the seat is made out of carbon fiber which means it will be very lightweight and strong.  It took the designer $4,000 to create the seat, hopefully the next model he creates won’t be quite so expensive.

Canon Beats the Squeeze By Marking Up Accessories
Almost every press release we get these days starts with the words “in these troubled times…” Here’s a (completely imaginary) PR pitch from Canon: Dear Mr. Sorrell [sic] In these troubled times, Canon has decided to weather the financial storm with an innovative new pricing model. With the release of our hotly anticipated new EOS 5D Mark II, we intend to adopt what is commonly known as the “razor blade model”. In the North American market, the 5D Mk II will carry an aggressive suggested retail price of $2700. However, the accessories will be marked up to a rather higher price point. For example, the Car Battery Charger CBC-E6 will be listed at $270, fully $190 more than than the regular battery charger (actually included in the box with the camera).
